SPECIAL PRICES WHILE STOCKS LAST
Conté Carrés is a hard pastel crayon, with a slightly harder consistency than normal pastels.
Used by professionals, artists and students alike, this crayon offers the widest variety of techniques and effects possible for drawing, sketching and pastel work.
Fixing is recommended.
The square shape allows the covering of large areas using the flat, long side. For different intensity, just vary the pressure.
For fine lines, use the short side of its edges.
With high pigment load, together with lightfastness and exceptional brightness and purity of colour, this is a favourite with the pastel artist.
Used by the masters themselves; Picasso, Degas and Delacrois.
The design of Conté crayons is sometimes compared to pastels. Both are sticks of solid pigment that are applied directly to the paper. However, crayons are much harder than pastels or charcoals, yielding crisp, tight lines, rather than the more smudged look familiar to pastel users. Using Conté crayons, an artist can achieve subtle variations of shading in clear, distinct drawings.
The traditional colors for Conté crayons were black, red, and brown. The reddish sepia tone is sometimes called sanguine, and was used by many Old Masters in sketches and preliminary drawings. Modern versions come in an assortment of colours, although some artists prefer to stay with the traditional colours, focusing on nuances of shading and design rather than bold colouration
Suitable on both paper and canvas.
